I did some research for you and it looks like there are a bunch of hogs in Sam Houston National Forest but it sounds like it's hard hunting, which is common for public land. Even here we have to get way back in the woods away from the roads and people before you really start to see any animals and even then we mostly hunt them at night. Just the sheer volume of people always running around on public land makes it hard hunting and the animals get smart and quickly learn to avoid people out there.
Thank yeah that is true i have had some luck on public lands. I got a nice 8 pointer and a 400 pound boar last summer up around huntsville. Just looking to do some hog hunting till dove and deer season start.
